NEWS JUST IN! This is 'fame-at-last-Phil', our resident expert bee keeper. Today we had a visit from the 'bee inspector', luckily we had an all-clear from those pesky varroa mites... ...now just can't wait for that sweet, sweet honey!
29/06/10 Treflach Farm Community Interest Company Yesterday we signed the paperwork officially setting up a Community Interest Company. Called 'Treflach Farm CIC' its mission statement is: 'To provide educational & therapeutic access to the countryside through the sale of fresh, free range & ethical produce' Predominantly through the sale of eggs - click here to see our presentation - hosted by professional & accredited leaders, we provide 'free at the point of use' access to a fantastic leaning environment (as well as a lovely place to relax). Get in contact to take part or learn more...
It's Bob's favourite time of year at the moment - summer harvest. First up is haylage (grass, cut and dried - a halfway house between loose, very green silage and small bales of dried hay). 6 fields out of 7 done and 233 bales (and counting) so far...
Continuing our commitment to providing Horticultural Therapty sessions on the farm we have worked really hard to improve our facilities. You may have seen our beautiful classroom or (almost finished, honest!) compost toilet. Now take a look at our latest and greatest feat... paths for disabled access to the gardens and polytunnel!
Before...
... and after!
Here at Treflach Farm we have hosted Forest Schools for local primary schools for some time - but always in a field... until now! Thanks to Rob Walmsley and crew for doing the remedial tree work necessary for Morda Primary SChool to make use of Bluebell Wood for their FS sessions this year!
A big Treflach Farm welcome to Silver (or Silvie for short). Nellie (our aging but still sprightly border collie) isn't too happy about the situation but Silvie has made herself right at home! Silvie is a Blue Merle with the distinctive different eye colours, supplied by the good friend of the farm Maurice Jones... who as I write this is in the Land Rover with Bob taking a beef animal off to the abattoir... mmm... steak....
I'm sure you've noticed the recent weather about the place - we certainly have and so have the animals. While we can keep them warm with plenty of food and straw the chickens are not fans of winter and have slowed down their egg production. In order to fulfill orders we have started working with another free range egg producer Mr Andrew Kynaston of West Farm... rest assured you need never go short of eggs here with team Treflach on the case!
Take a look at our new Autumn/Winter 2009 pricelist - including game and Christmas turkeys & geese!
'Apple days' on Treflach Farm Sept/Oct 2009 This year we are running our ever popular Apple Day as small personalised tours. So far we have had 12 small groups (10-20 people) come for a farm tour/tractor ride/apple juice making and more... if you'd like to take part in one of these FREE events email Lyndsie for more info!
12/09/09 Feast on the Bridge What a day! 35,000 people from all over the world congregated on Southwark Bridge to celebrate great British food, including your very own Treflach Farm. There was music & food, dancing and even a 25ft 'Beast on the Bridge' made out of cake!
14/08/09 FCBS London Fields Party - 50 of London's finest architects gathered in one park to savour Treflach's finest pork. Oh... and to drink some beer.
15/08/09 School Sports Day - Congrats to the winners - and to Treflach Farm for putting on a top-notch BBQ lunch, keeping the athletes on top form!
