Our Environment

At Treflach Farm, while we must operate a financially viable small-scale farm, we strive to do so in a way which minimises our impact on the local and global environment.  Some of the ways we ensure this are:

  • We use only recycled, biodegradable plastic carrier bags for our market stalls and have instigated a 5p charge for these.  We offer post consumer waste paper bags free of charge.  We also encourage all of our customers to return and re-fill the egg boxes that we provide
  • We have sourced biodegradable butchers trays made from corn starch and all Treflach Farm meat products are packaged in these.  We have decided to pass only half of the small cost increase onto the customer while half is footed by Treflach Farm as a company
  • We only use non GM, 'Identity Preserved Soya' based chicken and pig feed.  This means the soya can be traced to reputable producers, not slash and burn forest clearance farms in develping countries
  • We are members of the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme run by Natural England.  For more information please get in touch
  • We are investing in re-instating our old hydram which will reduce our electricity consumption pumping water from our well to the farm house.  For more information on the amazing victorian invention 'the 'hydro-ram', please get in touch
  • We have invested in state of the art chilled facilities for the butchery and cold stores, massively reducing our electricity consumption
  • We don't use organo-phosphate fertilisers, only good old fashioned manure
  • We only spot apply herbicide to problem plants using a quad mounted lance or knapsack reducing the quantity of chemicals put onto the ground
  • We use a recognised 'Off Set' company to account for our carbon output over the course of shows and festivals we attend through the year.
  • A percentage of our monthly profit is donated to a well known national eco-charity
